Embroidered Samplers
108 -
Sarah Brealey sewed her exquisite Sampler in 1822, at the age of 10. It is symmetrically planned and beautifully embroidered in miniscule cross stitch using fine, coloured threads, and showing considerable skill in the perfect positioning of the trailing border. The motifs (which include birds, butterflies, flowers, trees and a cute little bunny) have been very carefully placed around the verse. The contemporary (probably original) gilt frame complements the colours of this Sampler. Sarah was possibly the daughter of Sarah & Thomas Brealey of Newhall, Stapenhill, Derby - baptised on 8th December 1811. £ 425Property, etc.
