48/150 Avenbury / Stanford Bishop - 1776 - 1829 - Five small paper documents relating to Title of Benjamin Gardner to a property called 'The Hyde', acquired from the co-heiresses of Nathaniel Smith :- 1) Pedigree of Nathaniel Smith, who purchased the property in 1789, including details of his 2 wives, 5 children and their spouses (Hill, Walker, West, Willan). 2) Extract (stamped at 'Kings Silver Office) of Fine, recording Sale of Property to Benjamin Gardner by Nathaniel's daughters. 3) Certified extract from Parish Records confirming details of Marriage of Nathaniel, and Baptism of his children. 4 ) & 5) Two small slips of paper containing certified details of burials of Nathaniel Smith and Eliza Catherine Gardiner (Stanford Bishop). for overdraft by Thomas James Ward in favour of Messrs Webb
& Co, Ledbury (John Cam Thackwell, Joseph Webb, Edward John Webb, & Henry
Moore). Details of properties and land (with names & acreage),
including an Inn, cottage & hop kiln, cottage & wain house. Properties
originally acquired by Ward's uncle - Thomas Ward. All the lands appear to
have been occupied by William Hodges, as tenant.

Sets out conditions to be met by both parties - including payment of Taxes,
repairs, etc.

- gives details of his birth in Detroit, USA, and his living in England,
his mother's move to America, marriage, & his father's death, his mother's

who died in 1820, and its subsequent disposal to Philip Howe Daniel.
Sheet of paper folded in two and written on 3 sides. Signed by Philip

60/23 Bosbury - 1835 - a) Auction Particulars for Mansion House and
Estate known as The Razees - contains brief description of mansion and lands,
& includes a 'Terrier' of lands, showing the number, name, state of cultivation
and acreage of the various fields.
Large sheet of paper folded double (with a 3" tear in one fold & small tears at
sides), printed with details on 2 out of 4 pages, together with:
b) A printed plan of the Estate, on paper (overall size approx. 19"x 14") - with
a 5" tear in one fold - showing the location of the various pieces of land by
ref. to no. on the Terrier.

Robert Jones, surveyor, Ledbury. Written on a single side of watermarked

the sale by Trustees / Beneficiaries of William Turton Dec'd (possibly
pre 1800), to James Barrett (of Priors Court, Hereford) for Manor of
Temple Court, Bosbury, occupied by Robert Hartland as tenant. Trustees
were Samuel Rowe (Malpas, Cheshire), William Cooper (West Rason, Lincs.) &
William Elmhirst (Roughton Hall, Lincs.)
Paper - (watermarked 1835) with small splits in folds, not affecting text,
written on 5 sides, containing conditions relating to Title, & payment of
purchase money. Refers to several legacies payable under Will of William Turton.

48/177 Bosbury - 1908 - Mortgage by Willoughby
Baskerville Mynors (Bosbury) of properties in Aberedw, Radnor to Reginald
Masefield and Charles Briscow Masefield (Ledbury).
Parchment - with details of existing mortgage and an added reconveyance of the
properties when it was redeemed in 1911. Original Mortgage signed &
sealed by WB Mynors, and Reconveyance by R and C B Masefield. [see

60/30 Bosbury - 1908 - Agreement between Willoughby
Baskerville Mynors (Bosbury) and Davies Banks &Co to secure a further
overdraft. Details of earlier agreement between Mynors and the Bank and of properties in
Radnor upon which overdraft secured. Also includes a release of the properties
back to Mynors in 1911.

48/170 Bromyard - 1847 - Licence to assign lease, granted by
Thomas, Bishop of Hereford, to Trustees of Marriage Settlement of William
Wall (city of Worcester), now dec'd, and Elizabeth, nee Williams.
Refers to parcel of land in Manor of Bromyard, the Lease being for 3 lives (John
& Thomas Gardiner, and Edwin Crane of Worcester), and containing details
of previous tenants. It also refers to a Court decision ordering the
Trustees of the Marriage Settlement to assign the Lease to the Trustees of
Wall's Will.

60/103 Coddington Tithes 1837 - 1839: Small paper booklet with soft card cover, consisting of 52 pages c. 6”x 8” (written on 45 pages). Inside front cover and first page has ‘Date of Receipt’ stamps for the Tithe Com dated 26 Oct ? 1838 and 11 Mar 1839. Each Estate is listed separately under a sub heading with the total acreage at the end of the entry. The entries include details of the Landowner / Occupier / No. on Parish Plan / Name and description of lands and premises / State of cultivation and acreage. Together with a sheet of paper listing those landowners and their acreage who had signed the Agreement on 24/10/1837. £52
48/134 Coddington - 1875 - Transfer of Mortgage on properties in
Coddington by Mary Ann Willson (Hornsey, Middx) to Trustees, in
anticipation of her forthcoming marriage to George Boulton (Leatherhead,
Surrey).
8 sides of parchment - details of Mortgage advanced to Henry Edward Vale,
subject to an existing, including a schedule of the lands mortgaged. Original
Indenture signed and sealed by Willson, Boulton and the Trustees. The
final two sides contain details of the redemption of the mortgage by Vale.

48/172 Cold Green Estate & Swinmore Hopyard - 1813 - Valuation of
trees on land sold by John Winnall to James Jones in 1810 - one of
the conditions of sale was that the trees were to be purchased separately at
valuation. It refers to the sale agreement and contains a valuation of the
timber, carried out by Andrew Maund (Bromyard) and James Chamberlain
(Upton upon Severn).

60/36 Colwall - 1806 - Auction particulars for property belonging to
Estate of Philip Price Dec'd. Includes Tannery, Hopyard, orchards, etc.
Divided into 12 Lots - includes a schedule giving name, state of cultivation,
tenure & acreage of each piece. A small piece of leasehold was occupied by
Richard Allen & part of the copyhold land was subject to an annual payment
to John Hartland (aged about 80) for life.

subsequently relinquished rights to Stephen Allaway and land eventually sold to

Thomas Simon Woodall (Great Dinham, Chepstow, Monmouth) to Lord of the
Manor, in favour of Osman Barrett (of Mitcheldean, Glos. &
Plashendre, Aberystwith) Names adjoining landowners, & includes details of
Woodall family's interest in land as far back as inclosure award - 1808 to
Simon Woodall of Hartleton, Linton - identifies land on Inclosure award, and
descent through family. It appears that property was mortgaged to Barrett by an
Indenture of 1868.

original bank has been taken over by Lloyds.

of the Lane family, and includes a copy of the reply to Salt by the Steward to

held to consider the best mode of removing nuisances in Ledbury calculated
to produce fevers and includes a list of people who made subscriptions to defray
expenses, (Earl Somers, John Biddulph, Rev. James Watts, Robert
Biddulph, Timothy Spencer, G Masefield, Francis Higgins). The
other two sheets headed ‘Health of the town of Ledbury’ consist of notes
written on re-used cover sheets for letters (i.e. envelopes) addressed to Geo
Masefield, Ledbury, and postmarked 1843 & 1844. They refer to a
meeting of inhabitants held ‘29th Aug’ and a committee meeting ‘7th
Sept’ when the report concerning the names of owners & occupiers of premises
where nuisances productive of fever existed and includes summary of nuisances in
Church Lane, Back Lane, Back Home End Lane, Home End St, Bye St, High St & New
St was presented.
c) Re-used letter cover (i.e. envelope) postmarked 1843, which appears to
include draft minutes concerning part of the same ground as (a).
d) Small piece of paper containing brief note of offences being caused in Horse

Symons (of Mynde Park, Herefordsh., but formerly of Lyme Regis) of interest
in Estate of late father, Thomas Symons and property in Lyme Regis, to
John Cooke (The Chase, Ross) Contains much information, including details of
father's Will, existing Mortgages, brothers and sister and loans already
advanced by Cooke and to be secured by mortgaged interests and property.
The redemption (dated 1850) contains details of a number of further advances on
same security, assignment to George Strong (The Chase) and Ellen
Strong (Coughton, Walford) and subsequent redemption by Richard's widow,
Jane Dinnis Tolson Symons (Lyme Regis).
