Parchment - very decorative initial letter & further embellishments to top
margin. Split about 12" long at bottom - not affecting text, & concealed by
'turn-up' at base of document, a few small stains. Signed by Jo. Norden, with
seal tag but wax seal missing. Witness signatures on reverse - Tho Hawkins,

number of pieces of land in the common fields. Details of location of each strip
+ names of neighbouring landholders, including William Panting.
Parchment - decorative initial letter incorporating Royal Coat of Arms.
Faint damp staining & browning - a number of small holes with minimal
damage to text. Signed / sealed Thomas Panting with signature of
Elizabeth his wife, on reverse. Witness signatures Richard Harris &

lands by Robert Salt (Swindon) brother of late John Salt, sons of late
Toby Salt (both of Stratton St M) to Henry Pinnock (Swindon).
Includes details of furlongs where strips located - names neighbouring land
holders. Toby bought lands from John & Elizabeth Herring.
Copied in 1763 on 2 large sheets watermarked paper, signed by Robt.

Simpson to lands & Common of Pasture in Stratton St M covering period from
1698, when acquired by Toby Salt (Shrivenham) from John &
Elizabeth Herring (Stratton St M), details of mortgages by Robert Salt
(Swindon) - brother of late John Salt to Henry Pinnock (Swindon),
sale to
Charles Simpson & mortgages he obtained from William Farmer (Swindon) &
Henry Hill (Marlborough). The final 3 sides contain a detailed schedule of
the lands including the furlong in which each half acre piece is located, names
current & previous adjacent landowners.
9 sides of paper originally sewn into a booklet. Torn down centre fold where
sewn - some fraying & loss of odd letter of text. Top right hand corner of 9th
page torn off, slightly affecting text. Some additional notes in margins. noted
at end 'I approve this title' - signed Matt Kenrick 8 March 1763. [see
