Embroidered Samplers, etc
163 Hannah Fielden sewed her Sampler when she was 12 years old in 1837 using some unusual features - such as her 'wider than normal' border which consists of a continuous trailing branch of realistic rosebuds. A morality rhyme is positioned between floral motifs, also worked to a more realistic design than the usual 'geometric' flowers found on Samplers. A house, with its brickwork cleverly delineated, is embroidered at the bottom - perhaps representing Hannah's home or school. A very attractive piece, worked in cross stitch, with a little tent stitch - in excellent condition, framed & glazed. A little research on the internet suggests that Hannah may have been born at Todmorden. £375

Hunter from Sir Bellingham Reginald Graham [son of Sir Bellingham Graham & Priscilla Graham, & grandson of Sir Bellingham Graham] subsequent mortgage by Hunter to Hannah Dale & its redemption from her Exors. 215/212 Cawton - 1862 - Draft Declaration by William Kirk (late of Cawton then of Hunmanby) regarding lands in Cawton owned by William Garforth (Wiganthorpe) until 1823, then by John Tindall (Scarborough) and by his son James Tindall from 1845. Kirk was 72 yrs old at the time of the declaration, he'd been a tenant of the Cawton estate from 1817 to 1861. The declaration relates to differences in the description between the lands acquired by John in 1823 & those now being sold by James - includes the names & acreages of a large number of closes of land & mentions sale c. 1848 of lands to North Eastern Railway Company. 5 sheets watermarked paper written 7½ sides. £25

Large sheet of paper folded in 2 forming a first side which is an Auction Poster for the lands to be sold at The Talbot Hotel, Malton. A schedule of lands cross referenced to the 'Plan' includes the names, acreages & state of cultivation of the various closes on another side. Some tears in the centre fold & fraying to edge. Together with a Colour Wash Plan of the lands - by Robert Wyse (Surveyor, Malton) - some additional pencil notations & fraying to edges. £29
105/12 Glaisdale, Danby - 1780 - Assignment of cottage for remainder of term of 908 years by Thomas Hobson to Mary & William Craven. Refers to original Lease of 1757 & Marriage Settlement of 1769, by which Thomas mortgaged the cottage to Mary (then Hobson, spinster). Assignment of cottage subject to life interests of Thomas & his wife Mary. Paper with ink & embossed Duty stamps. Old linen reinforcing on reverse (where the paper had split in folds - slight loss of text). Some light staining of paper. 1622 by (Sir) Richard Osbaldeston (Old Coney Street then k/a Lendal)
[his wife Ellinor & son William Thomas Osbaldeston ] from Thomas
Westroy.
The property was Leased by (Sir) Thomas Widdrington from 1636 &
conveyed to him in 1653 [Thomas' brothers were Ralph Widdrington &
Nicholas Widdrington and daughters were Mary (w/o Sir Robert Markham),
